U.S. ‘Flame’ Virus Targets Iran

New details are emerging as to the scope of the U.S. and Israel’s efforts to use computer viruses against Iran. The virus, nicknamed Flame, was designed to map Iran’s computer networks and send back a stream of intelligence. The idea was to prepare for a cyberwar campaign to slow down Iran’s efforts to build nuclear weapons. Flame has a similar DNA to Stuxnet, another cyber program set to disrupt Iran. Flame, which evaded detection for many years, was designed to look like a routine Microsoft update.
